II Trobades Albert Camus 2019

II Mediterranean Gathering Albert Camus, Menorca

Direction and contents

In April 2019, the II Trobades Mediterrànies Albert Camus once again turned Menorca into a port of refuge and projection for Mediterranean thought.

This second edition “Under the sign of Prometheus. The paths of revolt” wanted to tackle the question of rebellion, one of the key concepts of Camus’ reflection, in order to raise a shared cry and try not to “remake the world”, but to “prevent it from falling apart” by restoring the concept of Camusian rebellion to contemporary citizens.

The objective was not so much to understand in depth the work of The Rebel, but to trace the paths of constructive rebellions and thus achieve a moment of positive creation to bring new orientations to our realities.

Like in 2017, this second edition maintained the format of three days of debate in which a total of 28 international speakers from more than 11 different countries participated. A clearly more international edition than ever.

Not only Camusians were present, but also writers such as Erri de Luca (Italy), Cristina Morales (Spain), Tahar Ben Jelloun (Morocco), Haifa Zangana (Iraq) and Luis García Montero (Spain); thinkers such as Elias Sanbar (Palestine), François Cheval (France) and Pedro Olalla (Spain); Filmmakers such as Amos Gitai (Israel) or Jihan El Tahri (Lebanon, Egypt); artists such as Alfredo Jaar (Chile), Zineb Sedira (Algeria), Isabel Muñoz (Spain), Jacques Ferrandez (France); and journalists such as Edwy Plenel (France), Bernard Guetta (France), Olga Rodríguez (Spain) and Lluís Foix (Spain).

A fruitful union between the shores of our sea, between generations and between different artistic disciplines, in search of a Mediterranean that transcends geography to settle in us as a space for understanding, exchange, coexistence and creation.
This three days were very intense, but above all allowed us to embark upon the paths of a joint revolt to find, as Camus did, an “invincible summer”.
